The EAF is recognised as key to healthy and productive fisheries. It has five major components: (1) maintain ecosystem integrity (no fish is an island); (2) a precautionary approach to fisheries and other use of marine and coastal ecosystems and respecting the rules; (3) broad stakeholder participation; (4) promoting sectoral integration and safeguarding livelihoods; (5) investing in research and knowledge.
